Short answer
Auping builds open and ventilated, in the Netherlands, with a model that is taken back in full and reused, in a price class several times lower. Hästens builds closed and layered, by hand, from natural fibres, for several times more. We sell Hästens — read this page with that fact beside you.
Two different convictions
Ever since blacksmith Johannes Auping's spring base, Auping has worked from one principle: a bed must breathe. Open structures, air flowing through, a drier sleeping climate. Where other brands add layers, Auping takes them away.
Hästens does exactly the opposite: layer after layer of natural material, teased in by hand, with the fibres themselves carrying moisture away instead of the air around them. Two routes to the same goal, and both defensible.
The price difference is not a detail
Between a good Auping and a Hästens there is soon a factor of three to five. That is not a nuance you polish away with material arguments; it is the most important fact of this comparison and it belongs at the top, not the bottom.
For that difference you get handwork, natural fibres and a longer lifespan. Whether that is worth it depends on what you have now and on how you sleep — not on which brand is better.
Where Auping has something Hästens doesn't
Auping takes part of its collection back in full at the end of its life and turns it into raw material again. That is a concrete, verifiable difference, and for some buyers it is decisive.
We don't sell Auping and so have no interest in mentioning it. We mention it anyway, because a comparison in which the other party does nothing well isn't a comparison but an advertisement.
Who should get what
If you want a good bed without it becoming a project, you sleep reasonably, and you want a brand that takes its goods back: Auping is the logical choice and saves you tens of thousands of euros.
